Minhaz Merchant is the biographer of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and the late industrialist Aditya Birla.

Rajiv Gandhi: The End of a Dream was published by Penguin-Viking to international acclaim. Aditya Vikram Birla: A Biography was also published globally by Penguin-Viking and launched officially by Dr. Manmohan Singh. It was translated into several languages. Both books were no.1 national bestsellers on India Today’s monthly bestselling ranking chart.

Minhaz is the co-publisher, along with HarperCollins, of the biography of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is the only Indian author who is a member of the London-based Biographers’ Club.

Minhaz is a widely published newspaper columnist on international affairs. Over 5,000 of his columns have over the past 35 years appeared in The Times of India, The Telegraph, The Asian Age, DNA, BusinessWorld and The Times, London, among other media. He has degrees in physics and mathematics and is the recipient of the Lady Jeejeebhoy prize for physics.

He has founded over a dozen magazines since 1980, including Gentleman, GFQ, TV and Video World, Technocrat, Business Computer (in technical collaboration with the global VNU media group), MegaCity, Business Barons, Innovate and élan. Several leading media professionals have held senior positions under Minhaz Merchant’s editorship in these publications: David Davidar, Maneck Davar, Anurag Mathur, Harish Mehta, Shailaja Bajpai and Vatsala de Sousa.

Additionally, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, MP, was Contributing Editor (Foreign Affairs) in the Sterling Newspapers group of publications for over ten years. Other regular monthly columnists in the group included former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani and former Prime Minister I.K. Gujral.

Minhaz is also the founder-managing editor of Innovate, a publication for U.S. policymakers and CEOs, with internationally acclaimed content, owned by Millennium Ventures, a private equity firm headquartered in Boston, USA.

Minhaz writes regular columns for the India Today group, BusinessWorld and DNA. His specialization is on the intersection of politics and economics and on India’s role in the new geopolitical world order. He appears frequently on television panel debates.

His book, The New Clash of Civilizations: How the Contest Between America, China, India and Islam will shape Our Century, was published in 2014 by Rupa.
